Sustainability
& No Waste
This page holds a special significance for me because these two subjects has always been a deep passion of mine, even though I've recently lost sight of it. I recognize that it's time for me to get back in the game and do my part. The vision of a future built on sustainable practices and reduced waste is what motivates me to contribute to the planet's longevity. While it's tough to acknowledge my slip, I believe that what truly matters is not the fall itself, but the determination to rise again. So, welcome to a page dedicated to the "get back up girl" we got work to do!

This particular waste villain is none other than PLASTIC. Once you begin to remove it from your life, you'll be shocked to discover just how much of it fills your home! How much food do Americans throw away? Consider this: Globally, about 2.5 billion tons of food are wasted each year, but the United States leads in food waste, tossing out nearly 60 million tons, or 120 billion pounds, annually. This represents around 40 percent of the total food supply in the US, averaging 325 pounds of waste for each person. To put it another way, it's like every American discarding 975 average-sized apples into the trash, most of which end up in landfills. Food is the biggest contributor to US landfills, making up 22 percent of municipal solid waste. Overall, the food wasted in America is valued at about $218 billion, which is equivalent to 130 billion meals. More information click here.

Supporting local businesses helps sustainability. When we buy from nearby sources, we cut down on long-distance transport. This reduces carbon emissions and lessens the environmental impact by using less fuel and creating less packaging waste. In short, shopping locally means fewer "food miles" and a smaller carbon footprint.
I make it a point to support local farms every day. By doing this, I help the community grow. It creates jobs and keeps money in the area. It also helps preserve farmland, encourages sustainable methods, and connects people to the land. Plus, it gives us fresh, quality food and strengthens our community through direct contact with farmers and farmers markets. To find some local farms near you click here.
